Heart of Midlothian Football Club is a Scottish Premiership Football Club based in Edinburgh with Elite Academy Status. The Club are looking to recruit an Academy Physiotherapist to work within the Club’s forward-thinking and ambitious Performance Department.
The Academy Physiotherapist is responsible for the diagnosis and acute/long-term care associated with players musculoskeletal injuries within the boys’ and girls’ academy. The role also involves providing pitch-side cover during academy matches which normally take place at weekends. The successful candidate will have previous experience of providing physiotherapy services within a professional sport environment and be passionate about working with and developing young athletes. In addition, the individual will have the ability to develop strong working relationships with a variety of groups including fellow practitioners, coaches, players and their parents.
Key Responsibilities:
• Provide physiotherapy support to players during evening clinics including diagnosis, acute care/treatment and short to long-term rehabilitation from injury. This includes the design and delivery of both pitch and gym-based exercise programmes.
• Provide physiotherapy cover during selected academy match days including emergency on-pitch care and treatment to players when required.
• Liaise with the Lead Academy Physiotherapist and the Head of Academy Performance, to assess players health status and contribute to informed professional decision-making on players fitness and readiness to train and play.
• Work collaboratively with other members of the Performance Department including doctors, sport scientists, nutritionists, psychologists and other specialists.
• Where appropriate be involved in conducting pre-signing player medical examinations.
• Maintain appropriate, current, legible and accurate medical records on the club’s AMS platform and ensure their confidential storage and compliance with data protection regulations.
• Liaise with external stakeholders to facilitate medical procedures taking place outside of the club e.g. hospital-based operations, consultations with medical experts and other such activities.
• Assist other members of the Performance Department with regular fitness testing and growth/maturation monitoring of academy players throughout each season.
• Facilitate and proactively contribute to applied research projects as directed by the Head of Performance.
• Any other reasonable activities as requested by the Lead Academy Physiotherapist or senior member of the Performance Department requested.
Essential Qualifications & Experience:
• Previous experience of providing physiotherapy services within a full or part-time professional sport environment.
• Undergraduate degree in Physiotherapy or equivalent.
• HCPC registered physiotherapist.
• Advanced pitch-side care qualification e.g. sportPROMOTE, SCRUMCAPS etc.
• Postgraduate qualification in Physiotherapy (Desirable).
• Able to evidence Legal right to work in the UK.

The role will have regular contact with children, and it is therefore required by law to have a Protection of Vulnerable Groups (PVG) check through Disclosure Scotland as a condition of employment.
