Academy Coach (Foundation Phase / Youth Development Phase)Salary: £30 per session and £35 per gameContract Type: Casual, evenings and weekends.Team: AcademyReports To: Lead YDP Coach / Lead FP CoachLocation: Various SCFC sites across Manchester and Salford.The Purpose:Salford City FC’s Academy is going through an exciting period of growth and we are looking for Foundation Phase and Youth Development Phase Coaches. Our Academy Coaches will play a key part of the team working closely alongside our Lead YDP Coach / Lead FP Coach and the Head of Academy Coaching to deliver an elite coaching programme for players in the Youth Development Phase or the Foundation Phase, in line with the Club’s coaching syllabus and football philosophy. The role will play a critical part in delivering a leading-edge football program, with a key focus of maximising the potential of our young players.
The Role:
- Follow and implement the Academy coaching syllabus and philosophy, contributing to its evolution.
- Plan, deliver and review coaching sessions in an age-appropriate manner in relation to Academy coaching philosophy and coaching syllabus.
- Create and deliver age appropriate matchday experiences.
- Develop individuals within a team environment through supporting players with their individual learning plans.
- Deliver off field coaching sessions.
- Adopt a proactive approach in working alongside the Lead Phase Coach in order to provide optimal playing opportunities.
- Develop game plans for matchdays to support players tactical development.
- Ensure PMA information is updated as requested by the Lead Phase Coach including training sessions, game time and player reports.
- Ensure a thorough working knowledge of the content and functions of the Academy Performance Plan.
- Work as part of a multidisciplinary support team in the Academy.
- Ensure player welfare is always the primary consideration.
- Ensure that reports are completed for all trialists each game and handed back to the Phase Lead.
- Work with the Lead Phase Coach to ensure all age group equipment is fit for use at all times.
- Work with Operations Manager to ensure all age group playing kits are in order for Academy Games.
- Arrive at the relevant facility at least 30 minutes prior to training sessions
- Arrive at least 90 minutes before for home fixtures or 60 minutes before away fixtures (based on kick off times).
- Participate fully with the Head of Academy Coaching in relation to development action plans and the coach competency framework.
- Ensure that all audit requirements are met.
- Attend all training sessions required by the Club.
- Role model and ensure positive and professional behaviours, ensuring honesty and integrity when working with young players at the Club. This includes being presentable, smart and personable at all times when representing the Club.
- Ensure you contribute to providing a safe Academy environment, demonstrating safe working practices and follow safeguarding policies and procedures, reporting concerns when necessary.
The Essentials:
- Experience of working with Foundation Phase or Youth Development players within an Academy environment or similar.
- UEFA B Licence or higher
- FA Youth Award
- FA Advanced Youth Award (to be completed within a reasonable period of time)
- FA Safeguarding qualification
- FA Emergency First Aid in Football qualification (or willingness to complete course ASAP after successful appointment)
- Enhanced DBS Clearance
- Valid safeguarding certificates
- Previous use of PMA platform (desirable)
- Experience in undertaking health and safety duties and responsibilities appropriate to the post
The Club actively encourages Continuous Professional Development and would expect the successful candidate to ensure they are keeping updated with new theory and legislation, attend any necessary FA in-service training, and participate in a program of CPD across the Academy’s technical teams.

- Ability to individualise practice within a group setting or match and provide individual feedback, interventions and challenges to support players technical and tactical development.
- A great communicator who is motivational, personable and approachable. You will be able to build and maintain relationships with players, parents and coaches with a collaborative approach to work.
- Extremely organised and methodical, able to work to tight deadlines with a high degree of accuracy and able to adapt to changing circumstances.
