Who is Omari Forson, Manchester Uniteds Future African Star

Omari Forson is a creative midfielder who was a schoolboy when he broke into the Under-18s setup. He gained valuable experience in the FA Youth Cup and league.

He was actually on the bench for each Reds tie during the run to the 2021 FA Youth Cup semi-finals. Unfortunately, the tournament was halted by the COVID-19 pandemic. United lost to Chelsea in the semi-final at St. George’s Park when it was reopened.

On August 7, 2021, he signed his first professional contract at Manchester United and committed his future to the Premier League giants.

The deal was announced by the 17-year old on Twitter .: “Happy to sign my first professional contract with Man Utd. A big thank you to all that have supported and guided me along the journey.”

The promising youngster was born to Ghanaian parents in the UK. He hopes to be able to make a name for himself in the under-23s and then have the opportunity to play with the first team.

His greatest impact came when he was promoted to the under-23s and stole the show over Derby.

Forson forged a partnership with Anthony Elanga and Shola Shoretire and took the leap up in quality. He was also the best player on the pitch.

In a 6-2 win, he scored once and provided two assists.

Forson spent his early years in London, where he played for West Ham United and Tottenham Hotspur and almost joined Arsenal before agreeing to join the Red Devils.

United have been linked with another Ghanaian in recent weeks, Kamaldeen Sulemana, a 19-year-old winger, was targeted by Manchester United as well as Liverpool following his 2020/21 performance but has now been signed by Ligue 1 side Rennes.

Kamaldeen chose France to be his next destination despite England’s interest.

After joining them in 2020 from Right to Dream, the youngster was already working in Denmark with Nordsaelland. His performances have sparked plenty of discussion about his abilities, with one coach even comparing him to Neymar.

While Forson’s Under-18s teammate Kobbie Mainoo who signed his first professional contract this week is also of Ghanaian descent.
