Who is Guro Reiten?

Norwegian midfielder, Guro Reiten, was born on the 26th of July 1994. Coming from Sunndalsøra, a small town in Norway, she found that everyone around her played football. When socialising with her friends it was always over a game of football. With only 5,000 people living in her town, Ada Hegerberg, who plays for Lyon, went to school alongside Reiten, but played a year below her.

At 14 years old in 2008 she joined Norway’s Under 15’s, scoring 1 goal in the 7 appearances she made. As she moved on to the U16’s team, she also moved on to her senior career with Sunndal, which was her local team due to growing up in the village of Nordmøre who were in the second division of Norwegian football at the time. Despite only making 1 appearance for the club, she furthered her experience by making 17 appearances for the U16 side and scoring 5 goals.

In 2011, at the age of 16, she left home and went onto join Toppserien (top level of women’s association football in Norway) team Kattem. In the year and a half that she spent with the team, she made 35 appearances, scoring 11 goals during her second season with them and becoming the club’s top scorer in 2012.

However, Kattem pulled out of the Toppserien, so Reiten signed for Trondheims-ørn in 2013. Over the three years and four seasons that Reiten was with the team for, she made 82 league appearances and scored 25 goals. She also reached the final of the 2014 Norwegian Women’s Cup with Trondheims-ørn as they faced a 3-1 defeat against Lillestrøm.

Following a successful four seasons, Reiten transferred to LSK Kvinner, another Toppserien side, for their 2017 season. Throughout the two and a half seasons that she was with them, she scored 51 goals in her 53 appearances for the club. With the club, she was a back-to-back Toppserien league winner in 2017 to which she also won the Toppserien’s regular season golden boot. Reiten and her team repeated both these feats, alongside winning the Norway Women’s Cup in 2018. Within that year she also won the Toppserien Player of the Year and Goal of the Year for her amazing performances throughout the season. At the time of her department as she left for former club Chelsea, she was Toppserien’s leading top scorer for the 2019 season.

From 2014 onwards, Reiten played for Norwegian national team within her senior career alongside her other attributions with other clubs. In May of 2019, she signed for the FA Women’s Super League side Chelsea FC for a reported £12,000. To date she has an impressive 7 goals in the 39 appearances that she has made for the club.
