Sheffield United remain among several Alex Collado admirers eyeing January move

Barcelona’s Alex Collado is attracting a host of admirers ahead of the January transfer window.

Various reports suggest that Real Betis, Granada and Almeria could offer an opportunity for Collado to stay in Spain but there is also reported overseas interest from clubs including Bayer Leverkusen, FC Copenhagen, Club Brugge and Parma.

Sheffield United are another side interested, the Championship club almost landed him on deadline day of the summer window and rumours linking him with a move to Bramall Lane have not gone away.

FC Andorra, who are 90% owned by Barcelona’s Gerard Pique, are another possible destination for Collado.

Barca are said to hold Collado in very high regard therefore will only allow him to leave on loan and will not agree to any permanent moves, despite the club not registering him to play in LaLiga this season.

Fans fear that one of their hottest prospects could be ‘fading’ due to his lack of match fitness. Barca are preparing for the future with the likes of Ansu Fati, Pedri, Gavi and Sergino Dest competing for first team places, Collado is being cast aside at the moment.

Despite that, Collado hasn’t given up hope of working his way back into the first team picture at the Nou Camp and would like a loan move in January so he can prove himself. He is contracted with La Blaugrana until 2023 so there is still time for him.

Sheffield United might fancy their chances of securing a deal for Collado after they came close in summer but in truth, all the aforementioned clubs have a fair chance of landing him.

Club Brugge can offer Champions League football, Bayer Leverkusen play in a league that is becoming notorious for developing young talent, Betis and Granada would give Barca the greatest indication of how he would get on in LaLiga, FC Andorra could have a good chance because of the link with Pique and finally, Almeria are strong contenders as they have established a good working relationship with Barcelona over the last couple of seasons.

We will just have to wait and see where he ends up.

As as continuing to bring through their homegrown wonderkids, Barca have also secured the signing of Turkish teenager Emre Demir and are still scouting all across Europe for talent to bring to La Masia.

Arsenal’s Charlie Patino, Hammarby’s Williot Swedberg, Dynamo Moscow’s Arsen Zakharyan and Brighton’s Carl Rushworth have also all been linked with the Spanish giants.

Barca are also one of a host of clubs watching Villarreal wonderkid Yeremi Pino, the 19-year-old has announced himself as one of the hottest prospects in Europe his season.

He made his senior Spain debut earlier this month in the Nations League and also scored his first Champions League goal this week against Young Boys.
