Portsmouth track Scotland Serie B winger

Pompey are following Harvey St Clair, the Venezia winger.

The News has learned that the Blues are looking into a possible loan for the ex-Chelsea youngster, and Scotland’s under-21 international.

The London-born 23 year-old was born in London and climbed the ranks of Mason Mount, Reece James.

As a 19-year old, he turned down a deal with the Premier League side in order to continue his development.

St Clair joined Serie-B side Venezia’s in June 2018 and has since made 23 appearances.

Recently, he was an ineffective substitute in Sunday’s 1-1 draw at Cittadella which placed them 10th after three matches.

During his time as a member of the Winged Lions there were loan spells at Kilmarnock, and Italian clubs Seregno and Triestina.

St Clair, a right-sided attacking play, can also be used as a right side-back. He fits Danny Cowley’s criteria of young talent.

The Blues would like to loan the winger, who is in his last year of his contract.

Cowley currently has the following loan slots: quartet Josh Griffiths, Dane Scarlett, Joe Pigott and Owen Dale.

This means he has one space is left, and the head coach wants to fill it ahead of tomorrow’s close of the transfer window (11pm).

St Clair played in four Checkatrade Trophy matches in 2017-18 for Chelsea’s under-21 team. He also scored once.

It also includes facing Pompey in Fratton Park in January 2018, when Premier League youngsters were 2-1 winners.

St Clair played the full 90 minute match, but Charly Musonda won in stoppage time to win a dramatic victory over Kenny Jackett’s opponents.
