Man City defender Esme Morgan ruled out of England’s 2023 World Cup Qualifiers

Manchester City defender Esme Morgan has been ruled out of England’s upcoming 2023 World Cup qualifying double-header, with a shin injury sustained in Sunday’s 2-1 defeat against Tottenham.

Morgan was stretchered off after 15 minutes. Spurs went on to win the game in controversial fashion. Man City’s first home defeat in the WSL since April 2018.

Morgan was in line to make her Lionesses debut after being included in Sarina Wiegman’s first England squad, alongside Manchester United midfielder Katie Zelem who has also been given her first call up.

Morgan was one of eight Man City players to be included in the squad but now joins club teammates Ellie Roebuck, Lucy Bronze and Kiera Walsh who were all ruled out with injuries.
