Job Description

Overall Purpose of Job:

The Youth Academy Sports Scientist will support the planning, development and execution of the Youth Academy and Women’s team Sports Science and Strength & Conditioning programmes. They will also be responsible for providing match-day support to the U16 Youth Academy squad.

Main Responsibilities/Description of Duties:

  • Under the direction of the Head of Academy Performance and Academy Director, provide Sport Science and Strength and Conditioning support for Youth Academy and Women’s team players in-line with the club’s current physical development program.

  • Help to develop and enhance the current Sport Science and Strength & Conditioning Support Program for the Club’s Youth Academy and Women’s team football players in line with wider Club objectives.

  • Work effectively with other support staff and services, including physiotherapy, medical services, performance analysis and football coaches, in order to provide an integrated approach to performance enhancement.

  • Help deliver physical testing at regula and agreed times throughout the season and thereafter develop and implement action plans.

  • Assist when required, the development of individualised fitness and/or rehabilitation programmes for academy players identified through test results, medical team and coaching staff.

  • Be responsible for providing match-day support for U16 Youth Academy squad incorporating the following: pre-match warm-up; nutritional support; monitoring of on-field physical performance; and post-match recovery and conditioning programmes.

  • Assist in the development of a reporting system that will help make key decisions in succession planning and development pathways to Academy players.

  • To represent the club professionally at high level European academy tournaments when required.

  • To ensure that all Academy players adhere to the Players Code of Conduct and show a high level of respect and discipline.

  • At all times observe all AFC Safeguarding & Welfare policies, undertaking annual training as required.

  • At all times, advocate and practice the Club’s established culture of professionalism, maintaining standards and discipline, and promoting all aspects of the AFC Personality.

  • To adhere to the Aberdeen Football Club staff & coaches Code of Conduct.

  • To be aware of and comply with the Aberdeen Football Club social media policy.


PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT

  • To attend and support monthly coach in service and development evenings throughout the season.

  • To attend Sports First Aid, Mental Health Awareness and Child Protection courses as required.


Person Specification: Experience/Qualifications/Training/Personal Qualities

Essential

  • BSc in Sport Science or related field.

  • Previous experience providing sports science support in football or another sport.

  • Dedication to continued professional development.

  • Strong IT skills and knowledge of databases and reporting capabilities.

  • Excellent communication skills and ability to positively influence.

  • Meticulous attention to detail and maintains a high level of confidentiality.

  • Full UK driving licence.


Desirable

  • Postgraduate degree in sports science (or a related field) or working towards

  • BASES Accredited (or working towards)

  • UKSCA Accredited (or working towards)
