Job Description

JOB SUMMARY

To provide best practice rehabilitation services to First Team squad players at Newcastle United FC.

ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Under the direction of the Head Physiotherapist, deliver best practice pitch based rehabilitation programmes for first team players;

  • Work collaboratively as part of an integrated and progressive multi-disciplinary team including physiotherapists, sport scientists and conditioning coaches to optimise player physical development, performance, and agility;

  • Plan and deliver early to end stage physical, technical conditioning sessions in conjunction with all members of the multi-disciplinary team;

  • Use GPS metrics to appropriately graduate players progression to full fitness and return to full training;

  • Employ evidence-based practise during rehabilitation, aligned with objective return to play markers following standardised RTP pathways for key injuries;

  • Assist with screening of all players, as part of a prevention of injury programme, under the direction of the Head of Physiotherapy;

  • Support resolution of medical issues in the First Team on match days including pre-match medical preparation and post-match recovery;

  • Deliver high quality, effective care through best practice;

  • Ensure clinical records and player injury profiling records are updated and compliant;

  • Be compliant with all professional, clinical, and integrated governance standards and participate in clinical audit and other quality assurance processes;

  • Ensure all personal qualifications, training and CPD requirements are kept up to date and in line with any applicable regulations;

  • Ability to measure and interpret internal load as well as external load metrics;

  • Ability to work with a technical coach to build ’technical fitness’ towards the latter stages of the rehab;

  • Any other reasonable duties.


ROLE REQUIREMENTS

  • Perform duties with due regard to club policies and procedures and legislative requirements at all times;

  • Ensure implementation of the clubs health & safety, safeguarding, welfare and equality policies to create a safe working environment for all;

  • Maintain an awareness of data best practice and ensure working practices are appropriate in collaboration with club’s legal/compliance/other relevant functions;

  • Undertake continuous professional development (CPD) training and/or additional training as identified or as required.


QUALIFICATION & TRAINING

Essential

  • MSc Sport Science or relevant degree topic, or equivalent experience;

  • Significant experience of pitch based rehab delivery in first team football

  • Significant experience using GPS with appropriate loading progressions for RTP


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & EXPERIENCE

Essential

  • Significant experience in a similar role within first team football;

  • Strong communication and listening skills; high levels of empathy;

  • Politically astute, able to handle complex issues sensitively and confidentially;

  • Resilient, calm under pressure and able to manage in a fast paced and dynamic environment;

  • Naturally collaborative, able to work across the multidisciplinary team and other player support departments;

  • Flexible, able to travel and willing to work unsocial hours in accordance with the demands of the role;

  • Computer literate, familiar with Microsoft office or similar packages.
