Job Description

Job purpose:

To identify and recruit players suitable for the Club’s Academy structure, who are capable of being developed through its Player Development Pathway. This shall include players aged 8-16 years old for its Academy, Shadow Squad, Development Centre, and Talent Identification Programmes, as well as when required for its Pre-Academy Programmes. All players must be recruited in line with the EFL’s EPPP criteria and must be able to commute to training at the Club’s designated training centres within 60 to 90 minutes of their home address.

Key responsibilities

  • Identify and recruit players aged 8-16 years old for the Clubs Academy, Shadow Squad, Development Centre, Talent Identification Programmes and Pre-Academy Programmes, ensuring 95% of players' spaces are always filled.

  • To liaise and develop positive relationships for the purpose of player recruitment with key external bodies including but not limited to local schools, grassroot clubs, leagues and the EFL and the FA.

  • To develop a strong working partnership with the Club’s Foundation and attend a minimum of two community school sessions, for the purpose of identifying talented players for the Club’s Foundation Phase.

  • Ensuring all attended sessions are reported on PMA within 48 hours of attendance.

  • Organise trials for players aged 6-16 years old each quarter or as an when required to help ensure recruitment targets are met.

  • Work with the Academy Manager to attend a minimum of one School Boy fixture per week, ensuring all attended fixtures are reported on PMA within 48 hours of attendance.

  • Identify and launch a new Regional Player Centre within a 20-mile radius of the Club and recruit a minimum of 80 players for the 2023/24 season.

  • Attend a minimum of two fixtures per week, ensuring reports for all attended fixtures are sent to the Academy Manager within 48 hours of attendance.

  • Provide the Lead Phase Coaches with a weekly update on players, talent identification and recruitment

  • To highlight and present proposals for junior loans and work experience.

General responsibilities

  • Ensure cohesion, conflict resolution and support management of individual players.

  • Compliance with club policies

  • Compliance with the club’s health and safety procedures

  • Compliance with the club’s safeguarding policies

  • Undertake such other duties as may be reasonably expected

  • Maintain professional conduct at all times

Skill Knowledge & qualifications required

  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to prioritise tasks

  • Accurate time keeping skills

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with an ability to use a variety of communication tools (verbal, written, digital)

  • IT skills to include the ability to use performance analysis software and Microsoft office

  • Up to date first aid qualification

  • FA Level 3 Talent ID

  • UEFA B Licence

Experience required

  • Previous experience of talent ID, recruitment, and development.

  • Previous experience of scouting, analysis, and selection criteria.

  • Previous experience of writing scouting reports and implementing suitable talent ID frameworks.

  • Experience of developing relationships with leagues, governing bodies, and local grassroots clubs.

  • Previous experience of working in a professional sport.

  • Previous experience of working within an EPPP Academy.
