FIFA 22: Ligue 1 Team of the Season Review – Midfielders

All eyes on Ligue 1’s Team of the Season will be on the tantalising front three of Lionel Messi, Kylian Mbappe, and Neymar. Monaco’s star striker Wissam Ben Yedder, who has broken many controllers over the last few years of FIFA Ultimate Team, also has an incredible card that will catch the attention.

After looking at the defenders such as Marquinhos and Nuno Mendes in the first article, we look at the four options that will dominate the middle of the park in FIFA 22.

Lucas Paqueta had one of the most popular Squad Building Challenge items with an 88-rated Player Moments card during Team of the Year. The Brazilian’s 3* weak foot let his card, but his FUT Birthday item had an upgrade (5*) to go with his 5* skill moves. The Lyon midfielder has had a standout campaign earning a 94-rated card with 86 or more in every face card stat. Compared to his FUT Birthday item, Paqueta has an extra four shooting, passing, dribbling, and physical: making him a brilliantly versatile central midfielder.

Aurelien Tchouameni’s break out campaign has earned him an unbelievable Team of the Season card. The Frenchman’s been linked heavily with Real Madrid and Liverpool over the past few months, and it is clear to see why after his season with Monaco. The midfielder picked up an insanely popular Future Stars card earlier in the year: that was already in the Gullit club.

With his 94-rated Team of the Season item having every stat above 87, Tchouameni suits either a defensive or box-to-box midfield role because of his 92 defending and 97 physical.

The third midfield option was one of the most popular Player of the Month item in this year’s Ultimate Team: Seko Fofana. The Ivorian picks up his first-ever Team of the Season item after a stellar campaign in Ligue 1. Like Tchouameni, he suits a typical box-to-box or defensive midfield role with every one of his face card stats above 87: 93 physical, 92 dribbling, and 90 pace, passing and defending. The RC Lens midfielder is up there with Jude Bellingham in terms of total in-game stats, and it reflects in his high price.

Matteo Guendouzi completes the midfield options and is the second former Arsenal player to play for Marseille in the 15-man squad. The Frenchman joins his fellow midfielders in the Gullit Gang club with every one of his face stats above 85. Guendouzi is a brilliant box-to-box midfielder through his 90 pace and passing and 91 dribbling and physical, but he does not quite have enough shooting (85) or defending (86) to be a defensive or attacking midfielder.

Summarising the four Ligue 1 midfielders, three options are elite level with Paqueta, Tchoumeni and Fofana, that many players will want to help win them the midfield battle. Guendouzi is also a brilliant option that will end up being significantly cheaper.

In the final article, we look at the six attackers in Ligue 1’s Team of the Season: including PSG’s famous front three.
