Carabao Cup: Round 2 Draw

Barnsley’s win away at Middlesborough has set up an all-Yorkshire clash with Leeds United. Jesse Marsch’s side began their Premier League campaign with a 2-1 win over Wolves at Elland Road and will want a similar result to go through to the next round in the Carabao Cup.

Elsewhere, Everton, Crystal Palace, Brighton, Southampton and Aston Villa have away ties to League 1 opponents.

In the North Section of the Draw, Scott Brown’s Fleetwood faces Frank Lampard’s Everton after beating last season’s League 1 winners Wigan Athletic in Round 1, whilst Aston Villa head North to face Bolton Wanderers after they beat Salford 5-1.

The Southern section sees Brighton head to League 2 champions Forest Green Rovers, Crystal Palace head to Oxford, and Southampton face Cambridge.

With no top-tier clashes, there are still some big match-ups between the Championship and Premier League sides. Wolves host in-form Preston, who beat play-off finalist Huddersfield Town 4-1 in the first round. The tie of Round 2 sees relegated Norwich host promoted Bournemouth. The Canaries have had a difficult start to their Championship season whilst Bournemouth returned to the Premier League with a win over Aston Villa.

Newcastle, Leicester, Nottingham Forest, Brentford, and Fulham have the easiest draws on paper facing League 2 opposition away from home. The Magpies head south to Merseyside to play Tranmere, the Foxes go to newly promoted Stockport County, Forest head to Grimsby, the Bees head to Colchester, and Fulham head to Grimsby Town in the Southern Section of the draw.

Other headline ties include Derby County against West Brom or Sheffield United, Watford hosting MK Dons, Vincent Kompany’s Burnley heading to Shrewsbury Town, and the 2013 League Cup finalists Bradford hosting Championship leaders Blackburn Rovers: who beat Hull City 2-1 in the opening round.

With the potential match against a team in Europe in Round 3, the lower league clubs will look to progress to give their fans a moment to remember this season. You can view the full draw below.
