Brentford Young-Coombes Looking for More Minutes Following Debut

Young Brentford forward Nathan Young-Coombes debut has been eagerly awaited for a while.

After scoring 32 goals in Neil McFarlene’s Brentford B set-up this season, it was hard not to notice that the Bees might have a gem in the 19-year old forward.

Young-Coombes joined the Glasgow Rangers’ academy via similar stints at Crystal Palace, Chelsea and other places. This campaign ended with silverware for Young-Coombes’ young Bees’ side.

After losing in the penalty shoot-out to Barnet last month, Brentford B quickly recovered to defeat Hendon FC on penalties just a few weeks later and lift the London Senior Cup for first time since 1898.

Young-Coombes can play on either the right wing or as a striker. His combination of speed, quick feet, and an eye for goal makes him a formidable threat to any defence.

His Premier League debut was however a surprise as he took over Mathias Jenson’s right-back role in the 87th minute.

After the game, Nathan Young Coombes spoke exclusively to London Football Scene and said that he was a striker who doesn’t often find himself as a right back, but that he is doing a job for his team, and that’s all it is.

“We are always able to fit into the first-team training and we are always around the first team boys – that’s the way the B Team works.

It allows us to slip into a Premier League match at any point. I must thank the staff of the B team for getting me this opportunity.

Young-Coombes, who was the third B team graduate to take the controversial decision to close the academy in May 2016, follows Mads Bech Sorensen and Marcus Forss.

Young-Coombes has the potential to surpass them all, with Brentford head coach Thomas Frank impressed by Young-Coombes’s growing abilities.

Thomas Frank stated, “I think Nathan Young-Coombes is a very intriguing striker.” “I like his ability of running in behind, he’s very adept at attacking the last line, and his ability press.

He has a bright future and we must now take the next steps for him. We believe in him.

They have complete control over fixtures because of the unique Brentford B structure. This season will see fixtures against Arsenal, Monaco, and Brondby.

Young-Combes will be up against Christian Benteke, Cesc Fabregas and Alexandre Lacazette. This season is sure to benefit his long-term growth.

Young-Combes stated that “The B team put me in a good place to play against men’s first-team games.”

“I have done this all season. Senior Football is the last hurdle. We are just trying to get over it.”

Brentford are now certain of their place in next season’s Premier League. It may prove difficult to maintain a consistent run for the first-team in the short-term.

A loan move to EFL next season, which Forss and Bech Sorensen have both enjoyed, could be his next step.

Whatever the case, Brentford fans will no doubt see more than a few cameos from Nathan Young-Coombes later on.
